Contrary to the “Stuffy” festival organizers' instructions, the first part of “The Great Book Discussion” turned out to be not stuffy, but hot. There were theses about the need for a special selection of self-published books, about the unnecessary audiobooks, and also about the fact that children's books will go into electronic format in the last place. I wanted to argue with all this, which I did for an hour and a half under the merciless Peredelkino sun. And besides arguments, I shared these thoughts:
those people who read books now prefer printed books, but e-books have a significant share of the market, and they need to be developed;
while we still control neural networks and not them us, we need to use them as a tool to improve and reduce the cost of book production;
neural networks are a technical tool, and they should be given technical tasks, for example, to create code for e-books (but not the texts themselves);
the catalog of audiobooks in Russia we still have to grow and grow, and the format itself helps to attract a whole new audience to books, which is unlikely to get to reading a printed or electronic version.
